EnvoNEWS Feb-March 2022

Despite being the shortest month of the year, February made great strides in the road to Net Zero. From cocktail party rhetoric to front page news, sustainability is finally where it deserves to be – centre stage. A global study conducted by IPSOS has found that 75% of respondents want single-use plastic banned and from Delhi to Dubai, green is (finally) the colour! While Delhi’s ban on the entry of single-use plastic from July this year is expected to reduce plastic production, Dubai’s free doorstep recycling service will help reduce waste, close the loop and perpetuate the circular economy. Just next door, news coming out of Abu Dhabi suggests single-use plastics could be banned in the Emirati capital by the end of this year!

Moving from governments to conglomerates, F&B giant Heinz has agreed to set a firm virgin plastic reduction target by March 2023, following their engagement with non-profit As You Sow. British supermarket chain Morrisons are about to change their in-house milk bottles from plastic to paper cartons, which are easier to collect and recycle. Super duper! If you thought it couldn’t get any sweeter, renowned chocolate-maker Guylian has announced a total rebrand to make everything about them completely sustainable- from their cocoa beans to their packaging. Known for their iconic chocolate sea-shells, they’re clearly concerned about all the plastic waste that washes up on sea-shores!
