The Story of envoPAP
We started in 2015. It’s been a long, crazy journey, and we’ve only just begun.
It all began in Southampton.
envoPAP was started by Kaushal while he was a postgraduate student at the University of Southampton in 2015, his first office and also his studio. He developed envoPAP printing paper made from reclaimed agricultural waste and began marketing it in trade shows across Europe.
It worked!
He first presented his product to the global audience at Paper World, Frankfurt, one of the largest paper oriented trade shows across the globe in 2016 to create product and brand awareness.
Fast forward to 2020, envoPAP has now created an alternative to tree paper that is capable of replacing most paper and single-use plastic products. With a global presence in 45 countries, we have generated revenues of over £7.3 Million since inception. What started off as a supplier of printing products has organically grown into developing packaging serving the beauty, food, medical and retail sectors with a strong team of sustainability warriors each excelling in their areas of expertise. Here’s a peak from Paper World 2020, Frankfurt marking our fifth consecutive presence.
The reason envoPAP was born.
Each year, more than 4 million hectares of forests are cut for paper and paperboard products, representing an area that is c.30x the size of London. envoPAP future-proofs companies from consumer demands of sustainable packaging by replacing plastic and wood-based materials with sugarcane waste fibres. We have saved 760,000+ trees so far and aim to rescue 1.5 million trees by 2020.
Our vision is to inspire a world where no packaging harms the planet.
Soon we were recognised by various esteemed brands across the world including EUIndia Centre for Business and Industry, Packaging Innovation, Retail Week, Founders Factory, North London Sustainability Network, Southern Sustainability Partnership, Business Green and many more. This was followed by our presence across various expositions from ACPME, UK till Lebanon Expo, Lebanon.
Here’s a Then & Now! From presenting on L’Oreal as a part of a Global Entrepreneurship module in university to today, working with L’Oreal UK helping them achieve their sustainability targets, things began to fall in place and there was no stopping after!
Now we’re the only UK based paper & packaging company to be certified as a B-Corp.
We have done some amazing things in the last 5 years, but what comes next is possibly our biggest achievement so far.
We have joined the likes of Ben & Jerry’s, Patagonia and The Body Shop in meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. Some companies misuse the word ‘sustainability’ to greenwash products that harm the environment, but we have always made truly eco-friendly products and our impact can be measured by the number of trees we have saved by replacing timber products since inception- 760,000 and counting. So this recognition serves as a high-five from the planet.
Imagine a world without single-use plastic, where trees aren’t felled to make paper and where crisp packets from 1979 don’t wash up on our beaches – envoPAP Research is a project is committed to making that a reality and we look forward to achieving an even higher score when we next certify. To sum up our mission with the words of Mahatma Gandhi: “Be the change you want to see in the world”
